Today, I want to chat with you about a powerful aspect of our Christian journey: the impartation of spiritual gifts. It's an incredible truth that God doesn't just call us; He equips us, pouring out His Spirit so we can serve Him and build up His church.
The Holy Spirit: Our Divine Enabler
When we talk about impartation, we're really talking about the work of the Holy Spirit. He isn't some abstract concept but a real, living Person of the Trinity, actively at work in the lives of believers today, just as He was in the early church. The book of Acts, which we often revisit in our Pentecostal worship in SE18, vividly demonstrates the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Remember Pentecost itself (Acts 2), when the disciples were "all together in one place" and suddenly filled with the Holy Spirit? Imagine a football team from Plumstead playing against one from Charlton; each player has a different role, but all work together for the team's success. Similarly, in the church, each of us is given a unique gift, or often several, to contribute to the collective mission. This isn't a magical act but a conduit for God's power, an act of faith where one believer, often a spiritual leader like our Revd Gabriel Olumide, facilitates the transfer of spiritual grace and gifting from God to another. It's about being open and hungry for what God wants to do in and through you. We pray for a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit upon us. Stir within us a hunger and a thirst for Your gifts, and give us the courage to step out in faith and use them for Your purposes.
